Right now, across America, shelters are full. Not a little full — turning-animals-away full. When a stray gets picked up and there's no kennel, it goes back out.
Nobody photographs that dog. Nobody names that cat. They go back to the same parking lot, the same drainage ditch, the same loading dock, and they wait for food that isn't coming.
Our volunteers go to those exact places every week. They bring food. They keep a list of who's there. They notice when someone new shows up thin, and when someone stops showing up at all.
What they can't do is stretch the food further than it goes. When the supply runs short, the route gets shorter, and the animals at the end of it eat nothing that week.
